About Our Camp |
|
We serve Religious, Humanitarian, Medical, and Faculty-Led Academic Groups from all over the world, but primarily from the United States. Camalote Camp is American-owned and operated and our experience in Belize dates back to 1981. Since then we have helped volunteer groups donate and distribute medical equipment and supplies to hospitals, clothing to the needy, medical services to the sick, conduct training of all types, and much more. It has been very rewarding to see so many needy local Belizeans helped so much by groups using our facility. Our guests sometimes work in very remote villages, without electricity or running water. Even though these villages can be isolated, they’re still accessible from Camalote Camp. We try to provide you a comfortable place in Belize to conduct your work during the day and to relax when your day is done. Here’s how we can assist you: Religious Missions: Church mission groups coming to Belize to do carpentry and building projects can use our tools. We have most tools you’ll need but it would be advisable to contact us ahead of time to make sure we have what your group will need. This allows you more room for other supplies. There is no charge for using our tools but if you break a tool , we do ask that you replace it with a similar tool. If your group needs assistance in identifying and selecting local building projects, we can help. Humanitarian Services: Humanitarian Groups coming to Belize to teach in a town or village may also find it useful to use our facilities at Camalote Camp. We have meeting areas for both small and large groups, presentation aids, and both indoor and outdoor facilities. Give us a call we’ll help in any way we can. There is no charge for this service. Medical Services: Medical groups that plan to work in a hospital or in local villages often find it helpful for us to assist them in applying for temporary licensing. This process takes about 60 days and is required for all medical professionals. Medical and nursing students are not required to be licensed but they cannot provide services to a patient without direct supervision from a licensed professional. We recommend that medical groups contact us in advance so that we can help make sure everything is ready when you arrive. We are happy to assist and never charge our guest for helping. College and University Faculty-Led Field Experience: Academic groups sometime find it helpful to send equipment and supplies to us ahead of time for storage before their team arrives. We work closely with local officials and can assist in providing project ideas and any needed local coordination and support before you arrive. Just give us a call and we’ll do our best to make sure your students have an effective and rewarding learning experience in Belize Transportation: Transportation to and from Belize International Airport in Belize City can be provided by our camp. We use 15 passenger vans to meet guests at the airport and transport them and their luggage from the airport to our facility. We also rent vans for your use while in Belize, normally for much less than local auto rental companies. Drivers can be provided if desired, but are usually not necessary. All vehicles are air conditioned and insured for the maximum amount offered in Belize. |
